I really enjoyed this novella. The world created and debuted in this novella is absolutely fascinating; I can't wait to learn more about the Mirus and explore Kait Nolan's playground. The characters are strong and surprisingly well-developed for a novella. Embry is both the typical strong, kick-ass PNR female, but her emotions draw you in and you feel some of her pain. My only complaint was that the transition to the flashback scene was a little jolting and I found myself scrolling forward to make sure I hadn't missed anything, but once I realized what was going on, it was easy to dive back into the story.

For wonderfully fast-paced, descriptive action, brilliant characters, and an exciting new world I highly recomment this novella to anyone wanting to dip their toes into indie books.

With all this cold weather, I haven't had the motivation to do much of anything but read. I thought I'd share another of my favorite e-books with the rest of you.

Don't be put off by the cliche-ish "oh the ____ turned us into sex fiends" premise. Rosalie Stanton is a master at making you forget all pre-conceived notions and fall in love with her characters. Since there is already a good synopsis, I will just tell you what I loved about this book: the characters and the amazing sex scenes. On every page you feel like you are right there with them because they are so brilliantly developed and have such clear voices. As for my other favorite? Well, you'll just have to read and enjoy. I do wish there had been a little mire action of the non-steamy kind, but that didn't detract from my love for this book at all.

Let's temporarily forget everything I've ranted about when it comes to the insane popularity of vampire stories. Do you like the Southern Vampire books or the Anita Blake series? Good. I've found something better for you:

Possession by Rosalie Stanton is... amazingly hot. Since all my synapses are fried from writing blubs and a synopsis, here's what the publisher's blurb is on Ms. Stanton's book:

Firsts by, again, Roaslie Stanton.

Wonderfully fleshed out (no pun intended) characters (which, sadly, a lot of erotic romances lack) and better writing than you'll find in many, many "best selling" books.

LIterary Weekend

What does that mean? It means that I won't spend the next 48 hours on the couch watching television shows I really couldn't care about or playing online Bingo (and losing!).

I picked up six books at the library last weekend and so far have only finished two. Well, one I read and the other I skimmed. I've got to finish the J.D. Robb book I picked up so that JT can read it (yes, I got him hooked on it, too - I plan on doing the same to my brother at Thanksgiving). The Science and the Detective book may take a little longer because, while interesting, it's full of scientific terms that slow down my poor brain. The book on Irish mythology will take me most of Sunday and it'll take a couple of weeks to go through the entire physics book.

Hopefully, though, this will recharge my brain so that on Monday I can dive back in to writing the Ashwood series.

J.D. Robb's "In Death" Series

I like it. I really, really do. It's a police procedural set in the future but the future isn't the story, it's part of the background. I don't like reading futuristic type stories where you get so bogged down in all the new inventions and things that you lose the plot. The characters are great - I absolutely adore Roarke and Eve and Peabody. There are enough twists in the plot to keep my interest and just enough of the romantic element to make me smile.

As a Nora Roberts fan (before reading this series), I recognize Eve and Roarke as evolutions of previous characters. Roberts' writing style is also easily recognizable. It's a good series, though. I've started recommending it to my husband. I'm even going to give my brother one of the books. It's nice sharing reading tastes with your brother - even though it means he steals all my books. Though he still prefers Cornwell over Reichs, but hey, he's not perfect either.

So where was I? Oh yeah! If you like your crime stories well written and with some romance, start reading J.D. Robb's "In Death" series. What are you waiting for?
